چکیده

The theory of scale relativity suggests that, at very large time scales, classical laws should be replaced by a non-deterministic, quantum-like description. The theory gives up individual, localized trajectories, but it yields the probability density of families of virtual trajectories, as deduced from a generalized Schr6dinger equation. In this paper, we compare the system of three planets recently discovered around the pulsar PSR B1257+ 12 to the predictions of the theory. We expect the planet periods to be quantized according to the formula 1",, = 2rcGMes R (4n 2 + n/2#7>o) 3 , where ~0 is a multiple of 144 km/s (as determined from the Solar System and from galactic and extragalactic data). The observed periods confirm the theory with a remarkably high precision (relative differences of some 10 4) and in a highly significant way (probability 3 × 10 5), allowing us to successfully check second and third order terms. We finally predict the periods of possible additional planets in this system, in particular T2 = 1.958 days.

Implications of the PSR 1257+12 Planetary System for Isolated Millisecond Pulsars

The first extrasolar planets were discovered in 1992 around the millisecond pulsar PSR 1257+12. We show that recent developments in the study of accretion onto magnetized stars, plus the existence of the innermost, moon-sized planet in the PSR 1257+12 system, suggest that the pulsar was born with approximately its current rotation frequency and magnetic moment. If so, this has important implica...

Improved timing formula for the PSR B 1257 + 12 planetary system

We present a new analysis of the dynamics of the planetary system around the pulsar B1257+12. A semi-analytical theory of perturbation between terrestrial-mass planets B and C is developed and applied to improve multi-orbit timing formula for this object. We use numerical simulations of the pulse arrival times for PSR B1257+12 to demonstrate that our new timing model can serve as a toll to dete...

We present measurements of the true masses and orbital inclinations of the two Earth-mass planets in the PSR B1257+12 system, based on the analysis of their mutual gravitational perturbations detectable as microsecond variations of the arrival times of radio pulses from the pulsar. The 6.2-millisecond pulsar, PSR B1257+12, has been regularly timed with the Arecibo telescope since late 1990. Ass...

With the MIPS camera on Spitzer, we have searched for far-infrared emission from dust in the planetary system orbiting pulsar PSR B1257+12. With accuracies of 0.05 mJy at 24 µm and 1.5 mJy at 70 µm, photometric measurements find no evidence for emission at these wavelengths. These observations place new upper limits on the luminosity of dust with temperatures between 20 and 1000 K. They are par...
